Web marketing and advertising is so different from traditional marketing and advertising that many people with expertise in traditional marketing find the concepts employed in copywriting for websites and internet marketing to be unusual. Many even deny the reality that web marketing and advertising on the internet is different from traditional marketing and they attempt to apply traditional marketing techniques rather than proven copywriting techniques that are successful for web marketing and advertising.

The main difference between traditional sales copy and web copy for web marketing and advertising is that traditional sales copy is usually deemed to be more effective if it is brief and to the point. Copywriting for web marketing and advertising; however, is unique in that it is not intended to simply captivate the audiences’ attention and prompt them to take action such as picking up the phone or visiting a store.

Copywriting for web marketing and advertising actually serves to fulfill the entire advertising and sales process. Because internet business is generally automated, the sales copy is much more than material for web marketing and advertising, it is the “sales person” that introduces website visitors to your products and services, highlights the features and benefits of your products and services, counters objections, asks the reader to act, and closes the sale.

Because the role of sales copy for web marketing and advertising is so much more involved than that of traditional sales and marketing materials, being brief and to the point is not usually the best approach to preparing your web copy. Short web copy can be useful if you have an online catalog and you are simply providing product descriptions through your web copy. However, most ecommerce businesses need long copy to persuade website visitors to become customers, to make sales, and to generate ecommerce revenues.

Crafting useful web copy for your web marketing and advertising using long sales copy techniques begins with planning. You must know your target audience, prepare a unique selling proposition that will appeal to that audience while setting you apart from the competition, develop a pricing strategy and bonuses that give customers the perception of value, and identify keyword terms and phrases that your customers will use when searching for your products or services.

Using the information from your research and planning efforts, you can begin to write sales copy for your website which will be the base for your web marketing and advertising as well as your storefront. Start your copywriting with the creation of a headline that grabs the attention of website visitors and a subheading that sparks their interest. Be sure to focus on benefits to the customer and to build credibility throughout your sales copy by including testimonials and credentials.

Use bonus items and freebies to add value to your products or services. Create urgency to prompt action by offering “limited time” discounts or special offers. Finally, set your website visitors’ minds at ease by providing a strong, no-risk guaranty and ask for the order.

Another technique that is useful for web marketing and advertising sales copy is to offer a free newsletter or a free report somewhere within your website copy. While this doesn’t contribute much to the actual sales process, it will provide you with an opt-in list of customers and potential customers so you can continue marketing to those website visitors that do not convert to buyers on their first visit. If you don’t get the sale, at least you will get a lead if website visitors subscribe to your newsletter or request a free report.

Be sure that a disclosure is made or an option is given that makes it clear to website visitors that they are agreeing to be placed on your opt-in list to receive communications from your company if they subscribe to the newsletter or request the free report. Using the techniques suggested here in creating your sales copy for your web marketing and advertising provides a strong foundation for building your internet business.

Search engine web marketing is, hands down, the best way to drive website traffic to your website. In the world of internet business, getting visitors to your website is critical and search engine web marketing does just that. There are literally tons of different strategies and marketing techniques that drive traffic to your website. Some are very effective while others sometimes produce less than desirable results.

There are two main methods of search engine web marketing and both are recognized as effective means for attracting qualified traffic from your target audience. In most instances, the traffic that is driven to your website via search engine web marketing consists of individuals who are looking for what you are offering and are ready to buy. The majority of internet shoppers use the search engines to find what they are looking for. This fact is what sets search engine web marketing apart from other methods of internet marketing and website promotion.

The two main methods for search engine web marketing are obtaining listings in the search engine results via search engine optimization and obtaining a listing in the search results using pay-per-click advertising. Search engine optimization can be a complicated process and sometimes requires professional consultation or professional search engine web marketing services to achieve satisfactory results. Because the competition on the internet is so rabid with great numbers of new competitors entering the internet frontier daily, it can be really difficult
to achieve and maintain a good search engine ranking without using pay-per-click services. However, if you can secure a listing on the first three pages of the search engine results through search engine optimization, it truly is free advertising that will produce miraculous results for your internet-based business.

Some people steer clear of search engine optimization services because of the hesitancy of such consulting firms to guaranty results. The truth of the matter is, they really can’t guaranty specific positioning in the search engine results because the search engines change their rules regularly and keep website owners and search engine web marketing professionals guessing about the best methods for achieving natural listings and a search engine ranking that is conducive to success for search engine web marketing.

If it is not possible to achieve and maintain a desirable search engine ranking using search engine optimization strategies alone, there is always the option of advertising through the pay-per-click search engine web marketing programs. While search engine optimization can boost your search engine rankings virtually expense free, pay-per-click advertising is a search engine web marketing tactic where you actually buy your way to the top. When
using pay-per-click search engine web marketing, you bid on keywords that your target market uses to find the products, services or information that is displayed by your website. With the exception of Google which considers site popularity in ranking pay-per-click advertisements, pay-per-click programs rank search engine web marketing advertisements based on which ones are paying the most for the keyword.

The advantages of using pay-per-click search engine web marketing programs are:

1. You can get your website listed in search engine results quickly.

2. You only pay for click-throughs to your website.

3. You have the advantage of attracting targeted traffic to your website.

4. You can get your website listed at the top of the search engines regardless of the competition.

5. You don’t have to be concerned with the constantly changing ranking policies of the search engines.

The disadvantages of using pay-per-click search engine web marketing programs are:

1. The bids on the keywords you most desire may be too high for your pay-per-click search engine web marketing to be cost effective.

2. Pay-per-click search engine web marketing campaigns have to be well planned and constantly monitored to ensure that you are not paying more than the value per visitor for click-throughs to your website.

These minor disadvantages can be overcome to produce excellent results from your pay-per-click search engine web marketing campaign. Alternate keywords for niche markets can be used to lower the cost per click. Ongoing monitoring of your pay-per-click search engine web marketing program and good management
skills can ensure that your advertising campaign is cost-effective. If you do not have the time to manage your pay-per-click campaign yourself, there are professional search engine web marketing companies that can provide campaign management services for you. A cost-benefit analysis will help you to choose the best search engine web marketing solution for your unique business.

I found it hard to believe at first too! Anyhow, Google and Yahoo both offer a local listing or directory for businesses, and the best part, its absolutely free! When you create a listing on Google and Yahoo Local, they have all your needs in mind. It will allow you practically create profile about your  business, all the way down to hours of operation and payments you accept. The listing or profile that you create will also give you a listing in their map service - if you put in an address of course. This a very useful and critical for small businesses with little to no start up capital. Your profile will also be crawled by search engines, giving you more impressions on the search engine results. Check out the link below for a tutorial on how to set up your profile on Google Local and Google Maps!

Set up your Google Local listing!

Enjoy!

So, you finished your website and wondering whats next? The one question that I am constantly getting asked is: “I have my website up now, but where do I go from here?” This is probably the most important question ever. Having a static website with no push or marketing behind it, just rendered itself as useless! Think about it for a second…the website and the presence it creates by itself is simply not enough. There are techniques you can do to jump start your web marketing efforts.

The best and probably the least expensive (because it’s free!) ways are placing your website on top search engines local listing. This will give you more impressions for your website, especially when searching for you locally. In conjunction with this, you should consider getting involved with a pay per click campaign. I recommend that you find your niche so you don’t waste ad dollars. I always tell my clients to let me install analytics on their site so we can see how their audience is reaching them. We then can strengthen the efforts that are already in place, as well as develop new innovative keywords and strategies for their audience to find them.

While pay per click campaigns and sponsored links will drive about 40% of your sites traffic, your organic efforts will take precedence with the remaining 60%. This is why it is imperative to correctly convey a clear message to your audience - allowing search engines to find you. The content that you generate as well as the frequency of it will determine how you rank in search engines.

Social media plays as a HUGE outlet for you to market and advertise you newly built website. Generate buzz and create a movement of followers for your website by taking advantage of the social media craze. These social sites such as youtube, facebook, twitter, digg, etc. are there for you to take advantage of. Use them to establish your business as trusted company by generating a following. This following will, in return continue to spread throughout their networks and create a whole viral campaign. Its too easy to get wrapped up in the social media world and post personal status updates that have no relevance - unless of course your website is personal. Instead post quality that your follows actually want to read and contains value. I recommend using social media to display a new post in a newsletter, events you will partake in, promotions, etc. This will return a much greater result than “Sitting at Wendy’s eating a hamburger”.

You have to be completely involved in every aspect of your website, especially if you want it to generate ad revenue. With this comes what I like to call “getting involved”. This simply means finding a more popular blog than yours at the time and commenting where their users can use your expertise. This is just another way to establish you as an expert. Guest blogging creates links that will link back to your website and ultimately putting you in more places! It’s that easy! Take advantage of the fact that some sites already have a wide range of readers, why not get them to visit your website while they are there?

First off, you should create a local company profile on both sites. Google and Yahoo are the top search enigines, so it is crucial that you do this step. Once you create a profile, generate a site map of your website. This means getting all the links within your site in an XML document. Now you ate prepared to submit your XML site map to both search engines. This will speed up the process of the search engines crawling or finding your website and it’s links, rather than on their own.

That was the easy part…lol! Now, there are certain meta tags you can use in the <head> of your site to help identify exactly what your website is and does. These meta tags also have keywords associate with them - this allows you to create keywords you think people will search in order to find your site. See the example below;

<meta name=”description” content=”Put Your Description Here!” />

**Note** Most search engines use a maximun of 160 characters, including spaces.

<meta name=”keywords” content=”Put Your Keywords Here!” />

**Note** Seperate keywords with a comma and try to use a maximum of 10

Once you do the basic optimizing of your site - you should notice a huge difference to how you show up in search results. I recommend that you install some kind of tracking  or analytics plugin on your site so you can see how people are finding you. That way you can strengthen and play off of what is already bringing you visits to your site. Check out Google Analytics - its the best, and its free!

The next thing that you can do is, enroll in a Pay Per Click campaign. Again, I recommend using Google’s, it has ample tracking stats as well as a feature to set your monthly budget. Once you do this and verify all your information with Google you will definitely get more impressions on the web. You only pay when some one clicks on your ad - that will show in the sponsor link section of Google.

If you follow these few inexpensive tips you will be driving traffic to your website in no time! Remember to constantly update your site with new content also. The more content that the search engines has to crawl the better. It will give you more impressions on the web.

During these rough times; because of the economy, companies are usually quick to do budget cuts. Most times I have found that companies cut their marketing and advertising budgets first. There is no better time to invest in a SEO (Search Engine Optimization) or SEM (Search Engine Marketing) campaign like now. Get a jump start in your company’s marketing and advertising efforts while everyone else is cutting back.

The way the economy is right now, gives you the advantage to attack your target market harder than ever. SEO is one of the most inexpensive and easiest way ways to attract leads. SEO allows you to target more of your audience at once, unlike some other traditional forms of marketing and advertising. Companies cut their marketing budgets not realizing how much harm it’s really doing to their business. Taking advantage of an inexpensive way such as SEO is vital during these times.

SEO is more than just a bunch of keywords used to identify your company. It’s more of a formulated course of action used to define your company’s niche, ultimately generating leads, increasing revenue or productivity. This is now more than ever a time to rely on what your Trusted Web Expert can do for you.

Now-a-days websites are used for all sorts of different purposes. However, when it comes to a company profile on a website you want to make sure you are getting the most bang for your buck. When obtaining a website if you do not have one already, be sure to be descriptive of the services that you offer and you market your services towards the right audience. Ensuring that your market gets a understanding of what exactly you do is vital.

Another important aspect of your website if functionality and usability. Take your website to the next step by eliminating a commonly faced problem by your users. It may be something as simple as a contact form. I know of many instances of information that is too hard to find or contact information is not present. Saving users the time of opening their email client because your website has a mail contact form on your site just increased your usability and functionality of your website. Save your users the time and show you care by making their experience on your website more pleasant and worthwhile.

Keeping your content fresh and up to date will bring users and clients back to your site. Be sure to take advantage of a news or announcement system that you can implement on your site, even if it is manually updated. The landing or home page should be filled with the latest and freshest content with happenings, events, and/or promotions within the company. Static websites are becoming outdated. The web is evolving do not be left behind!
